Falketind

Route info

Description

The best start point for this route is Koldedalen but you can also start from Tyinholmen or Fondsbu. There are no path signs at all on this route but you might see some paths.

Round the lake Koldedalsvatnet on a nice gravel road. Then continue in eastly direction into the valley Morka-Koldedalen and you pass the first lake on the northern side. It's really steep here and often snowfields which ends into the lake so be careful and use an ice axe. Go further and pass the next lake also on the northern side. After you have walked the half lake you jump over a creek and then turn right in northern direction up the steep hillside. About halfway up the hill will be steeper and you have to climb with your arms.

When you reach the glacier Stölsnosbreen then put on the glacier equipment. Choose to walk the glacier on the left side until you stand at the foot of Falketind with only one steep passage left. Now you will follow the north edge the whole way to the top, take it easy because it's rather steep here. First you walk in a heavy snowfield and then in rocky terrain. Even here you must assist with your hands. On the top plateau you can stand steady and just enjoy the silence and the impressive view.

Hiking time

12 hours (both ways)

Worth to know

The hike will demand glacier equipment.
Put up your tent in Koldedalen or after the lake Koldedalsvatnet.
