2018-07-17 - Krossbu-Store Smørstabbtinden
A good night's sleep on a slippery matress made us get up earlier than yesterday. Porridge concept also today and a peak hike to Store Smörstabbtind was on the program. There were no signs on the path but hopefully there were some tracks to follow uphill. I bit cooler weather today but that's ok for us.
From the base camp we saw the peak and it actually looked really tough. The first part went on nice trails in a straightforward rise. On the plateau, it became more and more stony and we also noticed the traces of earlier glaciers with accompanying moraine hills. We walked along the lake below Leirbreen and saw some lovely ice flakes. If we had swimsuits with us...

Now a slightly steeper hill was waiting up to Leirvatnet and than further transport along the plateau. Here the real stone and rock hill started. We choose the closest route in a straight line. Bitwise really steep where we got to use both hands. After that passage we found the path and reached the 2208 meter high peak. It was somewhat cooler and more unstable weather with tendencies to rain than we had earlier this week. However, the view did not disappoint us, and we had, for example, Storebjörn and Fannaråken within easy reach.

We took it quite carefully downwards and realised that if it had rained it would have been a completely different sport! At the foot of the mountain, we could take a lunch break right from the thermos when the mugs obviously remained in the tent! A well chilled "jägermeister" tasted well.
A bit down, we also saw a bird circulating above us, probably a bird of prey with its white wings and black spots.

Shortly before Krossbu, the weather suddenly shifts without warning with rainy weather and heavy winds. We had to run the last 5 minutes before we reached the cabin!
A hot shower and cloth change made us happy and we continued our journey south.

We arrive Fagernäs camping and the tent are thrown up 20 meters from the lake! The chanterelle soup with noodles is cooked, sounds better than it tastes. The evening ends with Ringnes and pizza. The night contained both thunder and rain!
